Constitutional Geometry in Westphalian and Post-Westphalian Constitutionalism Prof. Dr. Martin Belov Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski Thursday, 18.10.2018, 7 p.m. Sigmund Freud University Freudplatz 1, 1020 Vienna, Austria Martin Belov will present the transition from Westphalian to post-Westphalian constitutio­nalism in the light of the concept of consti­tutional geometry. Constitutional geometry is a new analytical paradigm of constitutional semiotics. It is paradigm which tries to detect, analyze, deconstruct and explain the diffe­rent shapes and forms used as explanatory and ordering schemes by the constitution and the constitutional law. The main thesis of the presentation is that we are currently un­dergoing a massive constitutional shift from Westphalian to post-Westphalian constitutio­nalism produced by three main phenomena: globalization, information revolution and mo­bility revolution. The lecture will be paralleled by presentation of the book ‘Global Constitutionalism and Its Challenges to Westphalian Constitutional Law’, edited by prof. Reducing risk in cross-border transactions The Role of the Hague Choice of Court Convention 13 December 2018, 6 pm Sigmund Freud University Freudplatz 1, 1020 Vienna, Austria Thomas John (ACIArb) Hague Conference on Private International Law, Permanent Bureau Thomas John works as Principal Legal Officer at the Permanent Bureau of the Hague Confe-rence of Private Internation Law. He will di-scuss identification of typical risks in cross-border transactions with a particular focus on certain transactional, litigation and enforce-ment risks typically encountered by parties. While domestic settings are used for compa-rison purposes, Thomas will concentrate on the international aspects of those risks, intro-ducing risk management and mitigation strategies, including as available under the 2005 Hague Choice of Court Convention which has entered into force for Austria (1-X-2015) and all other Member States, including the Uni-ted Kingdom, of the European Union as well as non EU trading partners such as Singapur, Mexiko and Montenegro. Januar 2019 09:15-17:15 Uhr Sigmund Freud Privatuniversität Raum 317 Freudplatz 3 1020 Wien Im Rahmen einer erstmaligen Zusammenarbeit zur wissenschaftliche Vertiefung der mit dem Internationalen Kinderschutz verbundenen Rechtsfragen laden die Österreichische Gesellschaft für Familien- und Vermögensrecht (ogfv) und die Interdisziplinäre Gesellschaft für Komparatistik und Kollisionsrecht (IGKK) zu einer Tagung am 17.1.2019 zu aktuellen Fragen des Kinderschutzes. Bazinas Introductory Remarks Prof. Akseli will present the potential use of a blockchain based distributed ledger platform as a registry for security rights as well as its interac-tion with the principles of the UNCITRAL Model Law on Secured Transactions (‘MLST’). This type of technology has the potential to revolutionise the third party effectiveness of security inter-ests. In this process, the modern principles of the MLST could play a pivotal role in reducing the cost of credit and expanding the financial inclu-sion of small businesses and individuals. Block-chain and distributed ledger technology through disintermediation have the necessary characteristics to decentralise and streamline the registra-tion of security interests. The technology can also support the taking of security interests on digital assets.
